Some thoughts on the human figure in art...

Human beings are rather vain. In my view, the arts exist because we love to see our reflection in the mirror of creative work—we want to empathize. I like the sense of identity one experiences when confronted with the image of a body. The infinite variety of our personalities, shapes, and movements is an invitation to keep investigating the human figure through the infinite possibilities of mark-making. Often, paper serves as both support and medium, offering a whole vocabulary. What does crumpling imply? Tearing? A worn surface?
